How to Read a Cable Spec Sheet: A Beginner's Guide

Decode the Datasheet

Every cable ships with a spec sheet. Here are the parameters that actually matter:

  • Conductor gauge (AWG) — thicker = lower loss, better PoE
  • Insulation/jacket material — PVC vs LSZH vs PE (outdoor)
  • Shielding — UTP/FTP/SFTP and when you need it
  • Temperature rating — ensures safe install conditions
  • Standard — TIA-568, ISO/IEC, or EN compliance

When in doubt, ask our engineers to walk you through it.
